Introduction

The Manhattan Beach Middle School Vocal Music program under the direction of Heather Gold consists of four elective choirs. The Mermaid choir for beginner girls, the Neptune choir for beginner guys, the Seaside choir (7th and 8th grade) and the Senior Wave choir (7th and 8th grade). These choirs meet daily as part of the school curriculuum.

As an alternative to choosing one of the above electives and for students seeking an introduction to vocal music the program offers a 12 week exploratory music course.

More advanced students may also take part in the Madrigal Singers (7th and 8th grade) and Musical Theater (8th grade) in addition to participating in one of the elective choirs mentioned above.

Members of MBMS vocal ensembles enjoy involvement in a campus organization that provides immediate identity and purpose. MBMS vocal music groups encourage and promote academic excellence, and rehearsals and performances are compatible with the students academic responsibilities. Chorus members are involved in concerts, festivals, recitals, and honor groups.

The Vocal Music Handbook contains guidelines for our singers, which have been formulated for the purpose of maintaining a vocal music program in which each member, the entire school, and the community may take pride. Please read the handbook carefully and save it to your PC for future reference.

Concert attire is important for providing a sense of unity and for raising the spirit of the occasion. Since we do not have robes, proper concert dress should be ordered using either the Girls or the Guys Concert Dress order form.

Please see the Vocal Music Calendar or Musical Theater Calendar for all program concert performance dates.
